Registration - (Shawbost Old School - 9 to 10am)
You will be supplied with a race pack consisting of (a) A swim cap with your race number pre-printed (b) A bike race number & tie- wraps for the cycle section (c) A race number for the run section & pins. (d) 2 clear bags for storing your gear (one for each transition area/team member) (e) Yellow wrist band (Team entries only) for swim to cycle transition.
**** Attach the bike race number to the front of the handlebars then give your bike to the marshals for loading onto the bike trailer. Bikes will be transported to the swim/bike (T1) transition area and placed on racks
Transition bags
One bag should have the gear required for the swim to bike changeover (cycle shoes, helmet, glasses etc) which should be taken on the minibus to Transition area 1. The 2nd bag should contain the gear for the bike to run changeover (running shoes etc) and should be left at Transition area 2 (Community Centre/Registration car park). A Minibus will take competitors to and from the swim start. Swimmers should be changed ready to compete.
Safety Briefing & Transport - (Shawbost Old School - 10am)
All competitors and marshals must attend the safety briefing in the Registration area at 10.00. The 2 minibus going to the swim section will leave the Community Centre as soon as possible after the briefing.
* A minibus will remain at the loch to take swim only team members back to the Community Centre.
The Swim
The swim section takes place in Loch an Dun. The wearing of a wet suit (unless agreed in advance with organisers) and a swim cap (caps are supplied at registration) is mandatory as is attendance at a short swim safety briefing . The swim course will be marked by marker buoys. The race will commence when a hooter is sounded. The same point is used for entering and exiting the swim section.
Transition 1 - (Loch an Dun)
Transition 1 is where you come from the swim and change to go out on your bike. Entrance and exit lines will be marked by yellow paint. All cycle/run team members must be in the transition area to receive the rubber wristband from their partner.
Helmet: Put your helmet on (mandatory) and do it up before you touch your bike. You then push your bike to the mount line as you leave transition before you climb on your bike. The helmet cannot be removed until your bike is placed on the rack at the finish of the bike leg. Team bike/run members are not allowed to put their cycle helmets on until their swim partner has transferred the rubber wristband and it’s on their wrist.
Bike: Will be on a rail rack in the Transition area 1. Push the bike to the transition exit line prior to mounting. It is advisable to wear cycling glasses to protect your eyes from grit, flies and other debris whilst on the ride. Marshals will be on hand to assist with traffic.
Bike Route
Marshals: There is just the single right hand turn on the cycle route (Junction leading to Callanish Stones, approx 22K in) which will be manned by event Marshals wearing hi-viz vest’s. Please be aware that, when riding in this event, and particularly when riding or running on a public highway, the function of the Marshals is only to indicate direction and that each participating individual must decide if a movement is safe.
Puncture Repair Kit & Tools: Sometimes the unexpected can happen so it is worth being prepared.
Drink: There's no drink stations on the bike course so carry water etc on the bike.
General: Headphones or other audio equipment are not allowed.
Markings: Caution Cyclists signs will be in place to alert road traffic where the course entails entering onto or going across the carriageway. Arrow signs will indicate each turn.

Transition 2 is where you come off your bike to start the run. You should dismount your bike at the Transition line and a race marshal will take your bike. Toilets are available at T2 if required.

General advice is that you run on the right-hand side against the direction of road traffic. Headphones or other audio equipment are not allowed.
Markings: Each KM will be sign posted and there will also be signs to indicate water stations ahead. Caution Runners signs will be placed at strategic points to alert road traffic. Arrow signs will indicate each turn.
Water Stations: Water bottles will be on tables just before 4K and 7K.
